With the rising prevalence of fentanyl-laced substances, preparation is crucial. Whether you’re hiking through scenic trails, enjoying a concert, lounging by the pool, camping or simply relaxing at home, make it a priority to carry NARCAN (naloxone) with you wherever you go—it could save a life.
Why Carry NARCAN?
NARCAN is a life-saving medication that rapidly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, including those caused by fentanyl.
Because fentanyl is such a powerful synthetic opioid that is often mixed with other drugs, the risk for poisoning is incredibly high. It can happen unexpectedly, and within minutes, it can be fatal.
Why is NARCAN a Must Carry This Summer?
Summer is a season that’s filled with events, gatherings, and activities where you might encounter someone who is suffering from fentanyl poisoning. Summer parties, concerts, events or large gatherings can increase your odds of coming in contact with fentanyl. Being prepared is as simple as putting NARCAN in your bag or backpack.
If fentanyl poisoning occurs, many summer activities can make it hard to get help in a timely manner. Think of large, chaotic concert crowds or remote hiking trails. When you have NARCAN on hand, you can act when fentanyl poisoning occurs – and provide valuable time for medical professionals to arrive.
How to Carry and Use NARCAN.
NARCAN is available in a nasal spray form, making it easy to carry and administer. Consider keeping NARCAN in multiple locations such as your car, home, and workplace to ensure it’s always within reach.
If you’re not sure if someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, you won’t harm them by administering NARCAN just to be safe. Even so, you should familiarize yourself with the signs of an opioid overdose and consider attending a NARCAN training session. It will make you more comfortable and confident about using NARCAN.
